GROK out with your… stuff out.

Where to begin ?…

Elon Musk is probably the best place right now. Dude undercut me with this one. He didn’t mean to. He just wasn’t imaginative enough. Or he did what I did. Hang onto that thought.

My “GROK” and his “GROK” are not the same.

What is “Grok?”

… Dang. I drew this one off single panel KFDV “comic strip” back in 2007.

KFDV is an acronymn for KUNG FU DISCO VOODOO. Which is a comic strip I started and sort of kinda do periodically. Hey, no one is paying me to do it. You get what you get until then. KFDV has a long backstory. I am still working on that. It even has a sequel! Imagine that. Working on that too.

The history of the character will have to wait. There is a lot to say there. It deserves more time.

Anyway… GROK.

This is a tribute piece. I used my KFDV Disco / JW/ Johnny H2O character. And his love of dance.

Have you seen Saturday Night Fever? Go watch it. One of the best coming of age movies ever made.

This isn’t about that.

What this IS about is the Robert Heinlein novel STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND. First published in 1961. Which won the 1962 HUGO award for best novel from the World Science Fiction Convention. Also the first Science fiction novel to enter the New York Times Book Review’s best-seller list. And hey, in 2012, Library of Congress named it one of 88 “books that shaped America.”

So. A little before Elon.

Grok? Well, that is vague. Yet all encompassing. In the novel it translates from the Martian language as “to drink.” It is empathy, oneness, understanding. You pretty much have to read the book to get it. Deep shit. Get your waders.

Deep? Definitely not Disco. So. A good contrast. But dude likes to dance. So. ..

Anyway. The original art is 9″ x 9″ (ish) india ink on smooth surface bristol board. It can be seen in person here…
