I left the raw edges and scribbles on this and everything. I just liked it.
Small piece. 4″ x 6″ I believe.
This was one of the original “suited animal” series that can be found on the site menu.
Quick recap: I needed warmup pieces to get my brushwork tuned back in. I like to draw animals. So I did a series of animals, starting with the letter “a,” and worked through the alphabet. I did these before larger works. “Warmups” as I said. The reason for the suits was so I had some solid black areas to lay in heavy and get that brush tip and my hand where it needed to be. Fine tuning.
I colorized a few of these in photoshop. I do like them but it is not as satisfying as seeing an original.
I do not usually revisit artwork. But I made a few exceptions. For this guy I taped it down to my board next to another piece and went in with watercoler off and on with the other piece.
